Getting to Know...Garneau

For a combination of picturesque beauty and lifestyle choices, Garneau is a neighbourhood that is truly hard to beat.  Named after the early settler Laurence Garneau, the neighbourhood was considered fully developed... in 1912 !

  • A few things have changed in Garneau over the past hundred years or so.  With the growth of the U of A and Whyte Ave becoming a vibrant retail destination, the area is home to a young population. 80 percent of residents are under the age of 40. Recreation, Lifestyle and Safety services are all ranked very high on the Community Scores rating system.  Walk-ability is excellent and public transit services are readily available.

  • As you would expect, the housing mix over the years has shifted away from primarily single family residential.  Garneau now boasts a wide variety of choices from high-rise condo’s, townhouses and apartments to one of a kind heritage homes.

  • An average listing price of $425 thousand reflects the popularity and scarcity of listings.  Easy access to nearby Old Strathcona and to downtown Edmonton has made Garneau a favourite destination of young professionals.
