If you’ve lived in Edmonton for any length of time you’ve heard about the neighbourhood of Bonnie Doon. The name was taken from the Scottish for “Pleasant, rolling country side” way back in 1907. Edmonton and Strathcona were still fighting about who should get to annex it.

 

  • Early Bonnie Doon residents recognized right from the start what a beautiful part of the city they were in. They built the first houses next to Mill Creek Ravine overlooking the stunning Saskatchewan river valley. Of course, the neighbourhood has expanded south and east over the years, especially after world war two, with residential development typical of the time.

Edmonton is surrounded by a number of very nice smaller communities. In the past, living in Fort Saskatchewan or Spruce Grove meant driving into the city for almost all your shopping or recreational needs.

 

Well, things have changed quite dramatically for these “smaller” communities. One of the best examples of this transformation can be seen in Spruce Grove.

Lewis Farms, in the west end of the city, is made up of 8 distinct neighbourhoods and provides an incredibly large selection of listings, with a wide variety of amenities.

 Hamptons, Suder Greens, Granville.

  • The area was established in 1988 and has seen thoughtful, ongoing development ever since.  Interesting fact…neighbourhoods in Lewis Farms are named after early pioneers in the Edmonton area. Some of the landscaping features include ponds, a golf course, school sites and an interconnected pedestrian trail system.
