Not many neighbourhoods in Edmonton can claim to be well over a hundred years old, but Ritchie is one of them. It was named for Robert Ritchie the former Mayor of Strathcona. The historic Ritchie Mill still stands on the corner of Saskatchewan Drive and 102nd Street.
- Because of its long history and location, Ritchie has evolved into an area of mixed land use. Although primarily residential, it does contain a number of commercial and light industrial properties. Almost 50 per cent of all residential units in Ritchie are single-detached homes. A nice mixture of semi-detached dwellings along with low to medium-rise apartments and some row housing, account for the rest.
